Lets take a look into Tottenham history today 4th August and see what we can find.

We have played just 2 friendlies with overseas opposition, KSV Baunatal (Germany) 1976 W 2-1 and Feyenoord (Holland) 2002 D 2-2.

In addition we have played 2 testimonials one, for Glenn Hoddle v Arsenal in 1985 which finished in a 1-1 draw and another for Keith Stevens away to Millwall in 2001 which resulted in a 2-1 win.

In 12 pre-season games on this day we have only failed to score in 1 and out biggest win was 7-0 in 1984 away to Enfield Town.

On this day in 1984 Argentinian World Cup hero Mario Kempes played for Spurs with fellow 1978 World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles (Enfield Town W 7-0). Striker Kempes was having a 2 game trial with us but we decided not to sign him.

On this day in 2003 we signed Frédéric Kanouté from West Ham for £4.5 million (€5.64m). As part of the deal Matthew Etherington joined West Ham for £1 million (€1.25m).

Lazio have made a £5.59 million (€7m) bid for 29-year-old Aston Villa centre-half Ron Vlaar after signing Stefan De Vrij from Feyenoord. La Gazzetta dello Sport say Manchester United, Juventus and Southampton are the rivals for the Dutchman. Jeffrey Bruma from PSV Eindhoven is their alternative.

Sami Khedira representatives have been speaking with Arsenal again. Real Madrid want him to go to Arsenal who refuse to raise their wage ceiling for him. The Spanish club don't want him running down the last year of his contract and leaving for free which unless his wage demands are met seems to be exactly what he is prepared to do. Bayern Munich would be his probably destination then. For Real Madrid £30 million (€37.59m) now is better than nothing in a year.

Liverpool and Atlético Madrid are said to be interested in 29-year-old Spaniard Santi Cazorla. However Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo ruled his side out.

"Many names have been mentioned, but none of those players, neither Cazorla, Callejon, Torres nor Chicharito (Hernandez) are on our agenda,' Cerezo told Radio Marca. If we sign another player, it won't be any of them."

A further meeting is planned between Liverpool and PSG over 29-year-old Argentinian forward Ezequiel Lavezzi. Liverpool will table a bid of around £18.36 million (€23m) with PSG needing to sell players to reduce their wage bill after falling foul of Financial Fair Play rules. Having paid stupid money for David Luiz they need some money back in the bank.

Today will see further talks between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of World Cup winner Mats Hummels. The 25-year-old stands 1.91m (6 ft 3 in), a bit bigger than the little centre-backs Spurs buy. Personal terms have been agreed and a transfer fee settlement is close.

Marco Reus will not be leaving Borussia Dortmund according to club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke's statement to Kicker magazine.

"We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave. Marco will play with us next season.
"There is no possibility that he will play elsewhere. We will try to tie him to our club for longer and we are proceeding with peace of mind that he will renew his deal."
