Performance Report

This is the player the Spurs fans wanted to see and after pre-season performances, expected to see. While other sides are splashing the cash we have quietly been getting the players we bought last summer to start performing. It is not because they have had a years acclimatisation to get used to the English Premier League (EPL) because Erik Lamela wasn't playing in it.

Physically he is better equipped but more importantly he is mentally right now. Andre Villas-Boas was the wrong manager and for interim Tim Sherwood he was injured. Now under Mauricio Pochettino the flair players are given licence to use their skill. The interchanging of the front four totally flummoxed the QPR defence who didn't know how to handle it.

While Lamela didn't score himself he had a significant part in the game and put in a beautiful reverse cross for Chadli to have a simple 6 yard header as well as a whipped in corner to the near post for Eric Dier's near post run. The Chadli goal came after 48 passes that included all 11 layers and lasted over two and a half minutes. With space in the number 10 hole he turned Dunne and ran diagonally past Ferdinand and two other QPR defenders before his chip.

He was involved with everything in the first half and when we didn't have the ball he was chasing it around keen to win it back and wasn't afraid to go into the tackle, he was one of the players closing Remy down when Eriksen won the ball for Bentaleb to send Adebayor on his way. He looks to have everything in his locker to really have a cracking season, even though it is early days and he has to get used to the league. He won't be afforded the time QPR gave him, indeed West Ham didn't give him that time last week.

He starts on the right but just like pre-season he interchanges with the other three attackers and has licence to roam, as they all do. The interchanging will be a feature of our play this season which will force defenders to continually have to make decisions. The key is capitalising on the mistakes we force when defenders make a wrong decision.
