Spurs favourites for Schneiderlin

Tottenham are favourites to snare Morgan Schneiderlin ahead of Arsenal as our rivals look to add Sami Khedira instead.

Spurs favourites for Schneiderlin

With Arsenal also having Mikel Arteta as a defensive midfielder, who is not leaving according to his agent, they are expected to drop any interest in the year-old French international.

Tottenham are already in advanced talks with his representatives and are conducting negotiations over a fee with Southampton, both talks are reported as being positive.

Schneiderlin would be happy to work with Pochettino again and Southampton seem happy to accept after years of service he wants to leave, rather different from the Dejan Lovren situation.

The Frenchman has told his teammates he won't be returning and informed the club of his desire to leave. He would add a playmaking element to defensive midfield duties in the manner Mikel Arteta has performed for Arsenal these last few years.

Seems to be a rare piece of good news in this transfer window so far. Most of our targets seem to be going elsewhere and we all seem to be after a certain group of players.

Liverpool and Arsenal have more to offer them in terms of European football and also higher wages. With Arsenal looking to considerably strengthen it is going to be even more difficult to finish above them.

We have had chances in recent years while they have been rebuilding but when the crunch comes at the end of the season we start dropping points like water through a sieve.

We won't know until the end of the season if Mauricio Pochettino has had an affect on them and improved their mental approach. We can certainly improve it throughout the season by appreciating every game is a big game.

A lesson in ruthlessness

It is human nature to see some games as bigger than others, and like it or not, that affects individual performance slightly. If all eleven are slightly down in performance then the team is down in performance by a greater degree.

As Spurs fans we see some signings as bigger than others but whoever improves the team is in effect a big signing. The amount paid or 'name' doesn't guarantee success, as we well know.

Players motivate themselves, or they should if they are half decent, as external motivation is short lived, internal motivation is lasting and determines output.

It is important Tottenham have a professional, in the same way that Liverpool now do, to work with the players individually and re-train their brains, which only takes 15 to 30 minutes a day.

The difference in performance and more importantly team performance is marked. The lets not lose then see if we can pinch a win approach has to go to be replaced by a let's win approach and then control the game.
