Spurs interested in another Spanish player

New boss Mauricio Pochettino played and managed in Spain so is well versed in the players out there. Tottenham fans have long felt the club should be unearthing talent in the manner other clubs do.

Swansea unearthed Michu or Arsenal with with Santi Carzola. Carzola spent most of his career at Villareal in two spells with a season at Recreativo in between. A season and Malaga and a move to Arsenal in 2012 Carzola is now 29.

Swansea only paid £2 million for Michu, again in 2012, from Rayo Vallecano. The 28 year-old had previously played for Celta and Oviedo.

Their is talent is lesser teams that brought to larger teams can develop and not enough of these have been uncovered by Spurs in the last few years. We seem to specialise in a decent player into a quality one while being left with those we haven't had such success with.

South America is a hotbed of talent but it is to Spain where we may find European ready team players as opposed to individuals we have to try and shoe horn into a team.

Reports to suggest Algerian midfielder Yacine Brahimi is a player Franco Baldini is going to watch at the World Cup. He is a 24 year-old attacking midfielder playing for Granada in La Liga who has represented France at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels before deciding to play for Algeria.

He has a £12 million release clause and is under contract until 2017. Everton are also said to be watching him and Arsenal had him on their radar previously.

In keeping with our love of versatility he can play left or right wing. He scored 3 goals and had 3 assists from 35 appearances, which is a goal every 925 minutes or a major contribution every 462.66 minutes.

The bottom line is how many goals you score and how many you create as an attacking midfielder so a major contribution every 5.14 games sounds like a poor return for £12 million. He is not the finished article so we'll have to decide how much improvement there is within him for the fee.

Has Pochettino used his Spanish knowledge to unearth a talent?

His finishing needs work, he is 5 ft 9 in (1.75m)but is weak in the air and his crossing needs improving too. He is an excellent dribbler, we seem to be being linked to a lot of dribblers lately, is excellent at holding on to the ball and passing.

It will be interesting to cast an eye over him at the World Cup to see what he has to offer although we should not be buying players on the strength of a World Cup performance, history is littered with flops as a result of that approach, although Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa did rather well!
