Would Holtby have fought for Spurs

Tim Sherwood allowed Lewis Holtby to go n loan during the January transfer window in a bid to secure his World Cup place with Germany.

Would Holtby have fought for Spurs

Spurs fans consider him to be a fighter, someone who gives his all but Felix Magath, the Fulham boss thinks otherwise. He was his boss at Schalke and loaned him out twice and at Fulham he has hauled him after just 34 minutes against Stoke City and at half-time against Hull City. He has not been impressed.

“Lewis is a very skilful and a nice player but he is not a fighter - I think it was not the right move for him. I think he has put too much pressure on himself.

“Against Hull it was not him who was playing and against Stoke it was even worse.

“It was too early, he came here for a chance to go to the World Cup but after a few weeks it was clear it wasn’t working. It was not the right decision for him.”

With Tim Sherwood wanting players who would fight for the shirt, 23 year-old Lewis Holtby appeared to be a man who would do that, he turned up for our mid week games to watch but Magath's words suggest otherwise.

He has always displayed a passion when playing for us but fighting at the top of the table is a different ball game than fighting at the bottom of the table, where confidence is everything. Had he stayed at Spurs he would have been a better bet in midfield than Gylfi Sigurdsson who has let himself down badly when played centrally.
