Paulinho to stay at Spurs

A second unsettled player has now come out to say he is haapy and Spurs and intends to stay, Brazilian summer signing Paulinho.

Paulinho to stay at Spurs

He has followed on from Emmanuel Adebayor and Sandro who have both told the press they are happy to stay. The players wanted Sherwood out and would have left had he stayed, now that he is gone they are refocusing on next season.

He complained during the season when he wasn't playing but now with a new manager imminent he is happier.

“I don’t have any problem. If you take a look, I was on the field in more than half of the games if you consider the Europa League and the cups.

“There’s no big issue with this, but a footballer always wants to be playing, never resting. We Brazilians are like this."

The 25 year-old midfielder was asked by FourFourTwo magazine if he held any regrets about making the £17 million move to Spurs.

“Absolutely not. I know how to handle my career and it’ll take more than just one bad moment before I reconsider my options.

“We have all got responsibilities at Tottenham and we are ready to go through this.”

That bad moment was Tim Sherwood who dropped Paulinho when he seemed to be going through the motions and saving himself for the World Cup in his home country this summer.

Chelsea are very keen to sign him are believed to be willing to pay £27.8 million to land their man but after a season in which he played 30 Premier League games scoring 6 goals from 72 shots with 2 assists Spurs will want to keep him and see improved performances next season.

He was dispossed 51 times and won possession back 47 times, those stats will need reversing next season. As he plays short passes his passing stats should always look good, he completed 1,088 passes from 1,287 attempts for a success rate of 84.5% and had a higher success rate away from home than at White Hart Lane. He also completed 61 out of 84 long passes but his through balls stats were only 2 from 4 attempts.

In 30 games he only tries 4 through balls, that speaks volumes about the way we were playing and why Roberto Soldado was starved of service. Tottenham fans will be expecting more than 4 through balls from him next season from him.
