On the first day of New Year my true love gave to me

Spurs fans and for that matter Liverpool fans were delighted to see Man U lose a football match that showed why the world prefers to watch the Premier League.

A game of action, a game of skill, a game of pace, a game of passion, a game of heart, a game the neutral enjoyed watching.

These 3 points were vital, a win and we are a win away from a Champions League place, a loss and  a gap would have started developing.

Aaron Lennon was in superb form and should have been given Man of the Match award quite frankly. Having put goals on a plate for Soldado and Adebayor against Stoke, which they missed, he gave another to Soldado and crossed for Eriksen for the second goal. The only gripe being he should have placed his shot in the first half in the far corner and not the centre of the goal.

Emmanuel Adebayor is happy again and therefore in trying mode which makes all the difference with him. This was the player we bought from Man City back again, he is linking well with Soldado who was involved in the build up to both goals as well as 'that pass' to Lennon.

Michael Dawson was a rock in defence and he had to be in the first half as well as the last 20 minutes. The only downside for him was Vidic beating him from corners but then he did have hands on Dawson's shoulders.

Man U in the first half were continually causing us problems down out left, Rose was giving the ball away and Chiriches got easily caught by players running behind him.  It happened again in the second half when they scored and Hernandez running the ball out of play. Those aspects were really the only downsides but we survived them to prosper.

Lloris made important saves. Man U's serial divers didn't get anything from Howard Webb, Young was already flying through the air before Lloris got anywhere near him, Welbeck decided not to put his right foot on the floor and dived, for which he should have been booked and Janujaz would lose a fight with a feather.

Eriksen playing on the left scored one ghosting past Valencia to steer a header and also made one for Adebayor, having popped up on the right. His performance can only boost his confidence levels.

Another away win, another attacking performance, chances created game after game show Daniel Levy was right to pull the plug on AVB. Are those few fans still demanding answers from him!

A happy Tim Sherwood who has now taken 10 points out of 12 praised players and fans afterwards.

"It’s always tough coming to Old Trafford but I felt if we got our players on the ball in the right areas we’d create chances.

"We created the best chances in the first half and it’s a shame we only managed to take one, but we stuck to it and scored the second.

"I could hear our fans all the time, singing and that lifted the players. I know the lads were really appreciative of that.

"Credit to our players, the guys you saw today are all the fit players we have and they have really dug in this festive period.
